New Families

Welcome new cub scout family! Follow these steps to get your cub scout registered and complete everything you need to get your Adventure On!

  1. Register with Scouting America
  2. Registration & Dues
There is a separate new scout fee when you first register with Scouting America. There is an annual registration, and Pack 61 has annual dues.
    • Pay the balance of the Pack dues via PayPal, cash/check, or a sibling’s Scout Account balance.
      • PayPal BSACubScoutPack61
      • Contact the Treasurer for alternative payment methods.
    • Why two payments?
      • Scouting America (National & Council) membership: General Liability & Accident Insurance, National Program Curriculum, National Training Material, Enhanced Adult Leader Background Checks, Youth Protection Program
      • Pack 61 Program Fee (aka Pack Dues): Activity T-shirt (new scouts), Awards, Patches, Neckerchief & Slide, Facility Usage, Pinewood Derby Car, and Meeting Supplies for the Entire Year.
    • Fundraise to cover costs!
      • When you register you pay for the Scouting America for the 12-month membership. If you have money from fundraising (in your “Scout Account”), then submit the receipt to the Treasurer for reimbursement.
      • In August, Pack Dues are announced. The treasure will directly deduct the amount from your Scout Account upon request.
  3. Scoutbook Your scout’s progress and rank will be tracked in Scoutbook.
  4. Communication Application
    • Join the BAND invite
    • We’ve streamlined the conversation and communications into one application. No more hunting through emails. After you register, you will get the link to join.
  5. Youth Protection Training
    • All parents should take YPT training. It’s good for two years.
      Link to training
  6. Uniform
Field uniforms are worn to Pack meetings; formal ceremonies; or in community representing Scouting. Activity uniforms are worn during camp outs, and other less formal events or public events.
    • The “Field Uniform” is the official/formal uniform. Pack 61 will provide the Neckerchief & Slide.
      • Uniform is based on age and rank. Navy blue (cubs) or olive green (Arrow of Light Cub Scouts; AOL)
      • Families can donate uniforms or uniform parts at any meeting. We also have a Facebook group, Pack 61 Uniform and Equipment Exchange.
      • Get a new uniform or scout gear from any of the following locations:
        • The closest location for a new uniform is Woods & Water Outdoors (124 Edwards Ave, Brandon, FL 33510). Note: patches are not pre-sewn.
        • Greater Tampa Bay Area Council office and Tampa Scout Shop (13228 North Central Ave.
          Tampa, Florida 33612)
        • Order Online through the Scoutshop
    • The “Activity Uniform” consists of a custom T-shirt. Contact your Den leader if you didn’t order one during registration. One shirt is provided to new scouts by Pack61.
  7. Medical Form
  • Please provide 2 copies for each person camping. One for the Pack and one for the Den. Medical forms are good for one year.

The Popcorn Colonel will provide wagon sale due date (usually before November) to return excess popcorn to the Pack.

Scout Sales above the quota is credited to individual Scout account and can be used to pay for annual dues and pay-as-you-go expenses.
  • Let the Treasurer know you would like to deduct credit from your scout’s account after fundraising. You will need to submit a copy of the itemized receipt to receive a refund from your scout’s account. Fundraising will help scouts pay these expenses:
    • Membership Dues
    • Pay-as-you-go Expenses will be incurred throughout the year to assist in covering costs of Pack camping trips and summertime activity events.
    • Uniforms
    • Other Expenses such as camping equipment or pitching in to buy food.

Do you have a fundraising idea? Share it with the Cubmaster or Committee Chair.
